Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Functional Safety Engineer responsible for the development and execution of functional safety activities for eAxle systems according to ISO 26262.

The successful candidate will work closely with system engineering, hardware, software, controls, validation, and customer teams to define, develop, and ensure functional safety compliance throughout the complete product development lifecycle.

The role focuses on system-level Functional Safety Engineering, including HARA analysis, safety concept development, safety requirement management, and coordination of safety activities across eAxle components (electric motor, inverter, charcon, transmission, sensors, and related control systems).

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and execute functional safety activities for eAxle systems according to ISO 26262.
2. Perform and maintain Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), including hazard identification, ASIL determination, and safety goal definition.
3. Develop and maintain Functional Safety Concept (FSC) and derive Functional Safety Requirements (FSR) at system level.
4. Develop and coordinate Technical Safety Concept (TSC) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) with system, hardware, software, and component teams.
5. Support definition and implementation of safety mechanisms for eAxle systems.
6. Manage functional safety requirements through the product lifecycle using requirement management tools and perform safety analysis methods
7. Support ASIL decomposition activities and safety architecture definition.
8. Coordinate functional safety reviews with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
9. Support creation and maintenance of the Safety Case and provide evidence for safety validation and confirmation reviews.
10. Participate in customer discussions regarding functional safety concepts and compliance.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or related fields.
2. Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive functional safety development according to ISO 26262.
3. Strong understanding of the ISO 26262 lifecycle and functional safety processes. Familiar with requirement management and traceability processes.
4. Good communication skills and ability to work in a global cross-functional environment.
5. Good English communication skills.
6. Experience with ASIL B/C/D automotive systems.
7. Experience in eAxle, eDrive, inverter, or electric powertrain functional safety development.
8. Previous experience working with OEM customers or major Tier 1 suppliers.
9. Familiarity with automotive cybersecurity and its interaction with functional safety. ISO 26262 Functional Safety Engineer certification (e.g., TÜV or equivalent) is a plus.
