A brief Introduction to the team:
Expedia Global Payments (EGP) is hiring engineers to build and evolve the core platform of our globally distributed payment system. We process over $100B annually in more than 35 currencies. Our priorities are high availability, lower payment-processing costs, and better experiences for travelers and partners (hotels, airlines, and more).

You will help build the payment experience within our Unified Payment Module, which supports complex payment scenarios. Our goal is to give travelers the simplest, most reliable way to pay and to make these capabilities easy for partners to adopt—seamlessly integrating into any checkout with an adaptive, dynamic feature set.

Today, the unified Payment Module powers our Modern Checkout, EGP Advertising, EGP Private label solution. It:
- Manages multiple forms of payment—Credit cards, Affirm, Apple Pay, Naver Pay, PayPal, Google Pay, loaclised payments, gift cards, and loyalty programs.
- Determines which payment options are eligible for each checkout context.

We are expanding the payment experience to support additional lines of business—Air, Cars, Cruises, Activities—and more points of sale worldwide within unified payment module.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and build rich, performant, and accessible web experiences using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and modern web UI technologies.
  • Implement and evolve the experience orchestration layer using GraphQL and Kotlin in a backend-for-frontend (BFF) architecture to deliver cohesive, resilient UI experiences.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineering teams to translate requirements into robust UI flows, APIs, data models, and low-level designs that are scalable and maintainable.
  • Optimize front-end and BFF services for reliability, performance, observability, and security, including effective error handling and graceful degradation across multiple domains.
  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve user experience, personalisation, or developer workflows, and ensure familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
  • Contribute to code quality through code reviews, testing strategies, and continuous improvement of engineering practices across both the UI and experience layers to support reusable patterns and components.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Professional experience building user interfaces with React and JavaScript/TypeScript, including hands-on development with Node.js and modern web UI technologies.
  • Experience owning and delivering features or services that span both front-end and an experience/BFF layer using GraphQL and Kotlin, with ownership of one or more services or feature areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement low-level designs, APIs, and data models that connect UI clients with backend services in a scalable way.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including safely integrating AI/ML‑enabled capabilities into existing experiences or services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep experience building complex, high-traffic web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Node.js, with a strong focus on performance, accessibility, and usability.
  • Strong expertise implementing and evolving GraphQL and Kotlin-based BFF or experience layers, including schema design, resolver patterns, data modeling, and integration with multiple backend services.
  • Exposure to backend engineering with Java and microservices, including integrating UI and BFF layers with distributed systems, monitoring tools, and operational best practices.
  • Experience designing and optimizing end-to-end UI and service architectures, including low-level design for APIs and data contracts that support reuse across multiple products or domains.
  • Experience safely integrating AI/ML‑enabled solutions into user experiences or developer tooling (such as personalisation, recommendations, or intelligent assistance), and applying AI/ML concepts to improve front-end and BFF workflows at scale, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows.
