Managing Security Consultant - Access Management (Remote in the U.S.)

Position Overview

We are growing! GuidePoint Security is hiring a Managing Security Consultant – Access Management to join our delivery leadership team on a full-time basis. This is a fully remote role where we are looking for strong technical leadership experience across Ping Identity (PingFederate, PingOne, PingAccess) and Okta (Workforce Identity, Identity Engine), with a solid foundation in Access Management fundamentals including federation, SSO, MFA, and API security.

The Managing Security Consultant is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of Access Management engagements across GuidePoint’s client portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of technical oversight, people leadership, and client delivery — ensuring that projects are properly staffed, technically sound, and delivered on time and within scope. The Managing Consultant serves as the escalation point for delivery challenges, coordinates across multiple concurrent engagements, and ensures consistent quality and client satisfaction across the practice.

While the primary focus of this role is delivery management and technical oversight, the Managing Security Consultant will maintain hands-on technical currency in Access Management technologies to provide credible guidance, perform escalation support, and contribute to complex architecture decisions when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Delivery Management (40%)

• Oversee delivery timelines, milestones, and deliverables across the Access Management engagement portfolio
• Partner with Project Managers to ensure proper project governance, status reporting, and risk management
• Conduct regular delivery reviews with engagement leads to assess progress, remove blockers, and ensure client satisfaction
• Drive accountability for SOW adherence, scope management, and change order processes
• Coordinate parallel workstreams within large, multi-track engagements to ensure alignment and dependency management
• Ensure proper documentation, knowledge transfer, and transition planning for all engagements
• Establish and maintain delivery playbooks, templates, and standard operating procedures for Access Management engagements
• Lead project kickoffs, status meetings, and executive steering committee updates
• Track and report on engagement health metrics including budget burn, milestone completion, and risk indicators
• Implement corrective actions and recovery plans for engagements that deviate from plan
• Embraces emerging technologies, including AI tools, to work smarter, solve problems, and drive better business outcomes

Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance (30%)

• Provide technical oversight across multiple concurrent Access Management engagements, ensuring architectural decisions align with best practices and client requirements
• Serve as the senior technical resource for complex challenges involving:
  • Ping Identity (PingFederate, PingOne, PingAccess, PingDirectory, DaVinci)
  • Okta Workforce Identity (Identity Engine, Okta Workflows, API Access Management, Okta Integration Network)
  • Federation protocols (SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect) and SSO architecture
  • MFA strategy, adaptive authentication, and Zero Trust access patterns
• Review and approve solution architectures, integration designs, and implementation approaches proposed by delivery teams
• Ensure engagements adhere to security best practices, vendor-recommended configurations, and GuidePoint delivery standards
• Conduct periodic technical health checks on active engagements to identify risks, gaps, or deviations from scope
• Maintain working knowledge of adjacent platforms including Microsoft Entra ID, CyberArk, and SailPoint to support cross-functional delivery needs
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to Architects, Senior Engineers, and Engineers across the Access Management practice

Staffing & Resource Management (20%)

• Own resource allocation and staffing decisions for Access Management engagements, matching consultant skillsets to project requirements
• Forecast staffing needs based on pipeline visibility, active engagements, and anticipated project timelines
• Coordinate with practice leadership and recruiting to identify hiring needs and participate in candidate evaluation
• Manage consultant utilization, balancing billable targets with professional development, training, and bench time
• Identify skill gaps within the team and develop training plans or mentorship pairings to address them
• Coordinate cross-practice resource sharing when engagements require blended skillsets (e.g., IGA + AM, PAM + AM)
• Maintain a skills matrix and readiness assessment for all Access Management consultants

Escalation Management & Client Relations (5%)

• Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery issues, client concerns, and technical blockers that cannot be resolved at the engagement level
• Manage escalation communications with clients, providing clear resolution plans and timelines
• Engage directly with client stakeholders (Directors, VPs, CISOs) to address concerns and maintain confidence in GuidePoint’s delivery
• Conduct root cause analysis on escalated issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Presales Support & Practice Development (5%)

• Support presales efforts by providing technical validation of proposed solutions and staffing models
• Review and approve Level of Effort (LOE) estimates and SOW technical content for Access Management opportunities
• Participate in client-facing presentations and technical discussions during the sales cycle
• Contribute to practice development initiatives including service offering definition, go-to-market strategy, and thought leadership
• Collaborate with sales teams to identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field — or equivalent work experience
• 8+ years of experience in Identity and Access Management, with at least 3 years in a delivery leadership or management capacity
• Strong technical background in Ping Identity technologies, including:
  • PingFederate (federation, SSO, adapter chains, authentication policies)
  • PingOne (platform services, DaVinci orchestration, MFA)
  • PingAccess (resource protection, policy enforcement)
• Strong technical background in Okta, including:
  • Okta Identity Engine, Universal Directory, Okta Workflows
  • API Access Management, Okta Integration Network (OIN)
• Deep understanding of Access Management fundamentals:
  • SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect protocols
  • SSO architecture and federation design patterns
  • MFA, adaptive authentication, and passwordless strategies
  • API security, token management, and gateway integration
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent engagements and delivery teams
• Proven ability to manage escalations, resolve client concerns, and maintain executive-level relationships
• Experience with resource planning, utilization management, and staffing optimization
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• Must be open to travel up to 20%

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with additional IAM platforms:
  • Microsoft Entra ID, CyberArk, SailPoint, ForgeRock
• Professional certifications such as:
  • Ping Identity Certified Professional
  • Okta Certified Professional / Administrator / Consultant
  • CISSP, CISM, or equivalent security certifications
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification
• Experience in consulting or professional services delivery environments
• Background in incident response or security recovery engagements involving IAM platforms
• Experience building and scaling IAM consulting practices or delivery teams
