DESCRIPTION:
As a Staff Technical Sourcing Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will contribute significantly to driving innovation and excellence across our operations. You'll lead strategic initiatives to optimize cost, ensure quality, and generate value while working with advanced technologies that help make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Working closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, product development, quality, and procurement, you'll focus on mechanical components and assemblies while ensuring strict quality standards and risk mitigation. This position offers opportunities to influence product design, drive manufacturing improvements, and collaborate with teams on breakthrough solutions.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in product design, development, and manufacturing
• Preferred Fields of Study: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics
• Expertise in mechanical assembly design, cast/machined parts, and sheet metal fabrication
• Strong project management skills with demonstrated success leading complex technical initiatives
• Proficiency in value engineering, process development, and DFx (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) methodologies
• Experience managing suppliers, contract manufacturers, and design firms
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (FDA, UL, CE, ISO) particularly in medical/scientific instruments
• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Pro/E, or equivalent)
• Expertise in building should-cost models and conducting cost analysis
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
• Ability to work effectively in diverse environments
• Up to 20% international travel required
• Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor colleagues
• Knowledge of phase gate development processes
• Experience with thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, and mechanical systems integration
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop technical solutions
