Legal Editor – Legal Content Writer (Job Profile: 104609 – Legal Editor TR6)

In this role, you will leverage your legal analytical and writing skills across a wide range of subject areas, to tight deadlines, to create, review, and edit concise, comprehensive written content for use in Westlaw UK and Ireland (UKI) and other legal information products. This includes, but is not limited to, abstracts of articles published in legal journals, as well as other legal editorial and content-writing tasks as assigned.

Legal journal abstracts and related content sets are heavily used by legal professionals for research and staying current with legal developments. Content Writers read, analyse, and distil complex material to create clear, targeted written content that allows customers to quickly identify relevant materials and make informed decisions regarding their research needs.

Strong analytical and writing skills, adaptability across content types, and the ability to work independently are necessary to maintain our world-class content. The role will also support other legal commentary products, projects, and initiatives as required.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Legal Editor – Legal Content Writer, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Select, abstract, and index material for Westlaw UKI according to defined criteria.
  • Create index entries for legal articles across a range of subject areas, including accurate citation of cases, legislation, and bibliographic details; correct application of house style; and consistent, accurate use of the UKI Taxonomy.
  • Draft, edit, or summarize other legal content as assigned.
  • Adhere to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards required for accuracy and completeness across all content types.
  • Review and amend draft content created elsewhere.
  • Conduct post-publication checks on database records and online services.
  • Achieve the required level of self-management of priorities and workload.
  • Support other legal commentary product workflows, writing projects, and initiatives where required.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory developments, including familiarity with diverse areas of law and skills training as needed to complete your work.
  • Demonstrate competence on company-specific systems, including customized editorial systems, necessary to perform your job functions.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Legal Editor – Legal Content Writer if you:

  • Have a JD or LLB degree, preferably in UK law.
  • Have excellent English communication and writing skills, able to clearly and concisely interpret and summarize key issues across a variety of legal, regulatory, financial, and academic source materials and formats.
  • Can demonstrate technical proficiency and adaptability in utilizing emerging tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity, efficiency, and accuracy on projects and tasks.
  • Are a self-starter with an aptitude for legal research and analysis.
  • Have a keen eye for detail and established proof-reading skills, able to focus on detail-specific tasks, in addition to being able to pivot your attention to address high-priority updates with little notice.
  • Are open to accepting and applying ongoing feedback.
  • Are a strong, proactive, and assertive communicator who can speak and write clearly and effectively with all contacts, both in and outside Thomson Reuters, across the globe.
  • Are a great team player who will work successfully in a global and collaborative environment.
  • Are comfortable adapting your writing style and approach to suit varied content formats and assignments beyond a single content type.
