Data Center Smart Hands Engineer

What success looks like in this role:

Position Summary

The Data Center Smart Hands Engineer provides onsite technical support for data center operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on support for server, storage, network, and peripheral equipment within data center
• Execute hardware break/fix activities, including component replacement, diagnostics, and troubleshooting
• Install, rack, stack, cable, and decommission IT equipment according to documented procedures
• Support network infrastructure deployments, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cabling
• Perform hardware testing, validation, and certification activities for servers, storage systems, networking
• Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques and tools to resolve incidents and service requests.
• Escalate complex technical issues and collaborate with engineering and support teams
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, asset changes, and site activities.
• Support IMACD (Install, Move, Add, Change, Dispose) requests and infrastructure lifecycle activities
• Follow change management, security, compliance, and safety procedures while operating in data center
• Provide VIP support when required and serve as a technical liaison between clients and remote support

Technical Skills

• Server hardware support (Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco UCS)
• Storage systems support and maintenance

• Fiber and copper cabling standards
• Remote hands and smart hands support
• Hardware diagnostics and lifecycle management
• Incident, change, and asset management processes

Work Environment

• Onsite data center and client facilities.
• Ability to lift and move IT equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.
• May require after-hours, weekend, or on-call support based on operational needs.
• Travel may be required for multi-site support engagements.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline preferred.
• 4-6 years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, servers, storage, and networking
• Experience working in data center environments with adherence to operational and security standards.
• Strong understanding of server hardware, storage systems, operating systems, and network infrastructure
• Experience with hardware diagnostics, repairs, and equipment installations.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.

Preferred Certifications

• CompTIA A+
• CompTIA Network+
• Dell, HPE, Cisco, Lenovo, or equivalent OEM certifications
• ITIL Foundation
• Data Center Operations certifications (preferred)

Experience Level: Mid-Level (4-6 Years)
